Missing Features: Web Animation Over Remote Desktop

Published by Justin at 4:58 am under Missing Features

Windows remote desktop is perhaps the greatest advancement in Windows server technology that received the least amount of press when Windows Server 2000 debuted. Still, the technology has become a part of the work flow of millions of workers.

From system administrators connecting to work servers from home to fix a problem or to regular office workers using a terminal server to get work done on the road, the technology has proven critical to many work functions.

Why then has Redmond abandoned development of this tool?

Try visiting a website with Flash under a remote session, and your connection grinds to a halt. This is embarrassing- a website with any animation flash content is stops remote desktop in its tracks.

A major missing feature in remote desktop is a built-in awareness that detects a user visiting a web site with animation or other heavy content, where remote desktop would throttle down the bandwidth damage that the animation inflicts. This would ensure a smooth experience for the user.

Why does Redmond love to release good software, and then stop innovating?
